Understanding Outpatient Treatment
Outpatient Counseling at Arrow Passage Recovery provides treatment for adults who are affected by the use of alcohol or other drugs. Outpatient treatment offers skills for maintaining a substance-free lifestyle. Services include assessment and treatment planning, individual, group, and family counseling.
Outpatient treatment can guide some people through all stages of their recovery. However, some use outpatient treatment during the later stages of recovery.
The National Institute on Drug Abuse notes that drug treatment programs that last less than 90 days have limited effectiveness. In fact, 12 months of treatment is considered the minimum for opioid addiction, but many people benefit from longer treatment periods. For this reason, it is usual for people in recovery from opiate use disorder to attend short-term inpatient treatment programs but later transition into a longer-term outpatient treatment program.
Outpatient drug and alcohol treatment programs share many similarities with residential treatment programs, but in a differently structured environment. Outpatient programs provide more freedom of movement which allows you to maintain a regular commitment to family, work, and educational responsibilities. Because of the ability to go home after a daily or evening program, you are able to have a greater level of privacy and anonymity.
Outpatient Treatment at Arrow Passage
Offering Outpatient Treatment on a beautiful landscape
Unlike residential treatment programs, you will return to your own environment after outpatient drug or alcohol treatment and must voluntarily abstain from drug or alcohol use. Outpatient programs like Arrow Passage Recovery provide a support network for you in the form of official support groups, individual counseling, and family counseling so that you are never alone in their recovery.
You will be provided with a strong support network of non-using peers and sponsors. Outpatient drug and alcohol treatment requires a component of group therapy and support groups like NA and AA, which provide a new, positive element of social change in your life and facilitates long-term recovery.
Like residential treatment programs, outpatient programs also focus on family support and involvement, and an immediately positive element of outpatient treatment is that you can automatically apply the lessons learned from Arrow Passage Recovery outpatient treatment to your daily experiences.
Life Skills Training
Outpatient programs can be challenging because of problems at work and home. However, life skills training in treatment will help build the skills needed to handle everyday problems.
In standard outpatient treatment, you may have 1 or 2 group therapy sessions a week. Treatment may go on for a year or more. Sessions may be in the evening or on weekends so you can go to work.
For Arrow Passage Recovery outpatient treatment to work well, it’s important to go to sessions regularly and also get other support, such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Having support from loved ones, good transportation, and a stable place to live also are important.
